PURPOSE STATEMENT

This position is responsible for assisting certificated staff by performing instructional support tasks in both English and Spanish related to the students' educational development within the total school environment and by being a positive role model for students.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Work with students under the direction of certificated teachers to facilitate academic skills and oral language development.
  2. Learn instructional techniques under the direction of a teacher and independently carry out instructional programs developed by the supervising teacher.
  3. Provide instruction to students in both English and Spanish.
  4. Provide small-group intervention instruction and targeted academic support in literacy and mathematics.
  5. Assist certificated staff in the development and use of teaching aids and materials.
  6. Collaboratively work with classroom teachers.
  7. Possess an understanding of both intermediate and primary elementary mathematics concepts sufficient to support student learning and intervention activities, or demonstrate the ability to acquire such knowledge through training and supervision.
  8. Assist in assessing students.
  9. Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress in the classroom and other school activities.
  10. Assist certificated staff with required record keeping.
  11. Promote positive public relations when communicating with the public.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  1. Perform routine classroom and building clerical tasks as needed.
  2. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams.
  3. Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
