PURPOSE STATEMENT
On an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
- Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
- Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
- Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
- Adhere to all Walla Walla Public Schools board policies and procedures.
- Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Building Administrator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
- Experience working with children preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
- Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
- Skill in classroom management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
- Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively using both English and Spanish, to include reading, writing, and speaking.
Licenses/Special Requirements
- Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
- Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
