Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Provide an opportunity for middle school students to participate on a school math team in preparation for competing in the annual Math is Cool competition. Provide an opportunity for all students who participate to build their capacities to use math, face difficult challenges, and cooperate with others to solve problems.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Attend training and prep session, for first time coaches, at least.
  2. Run practices.
  3. Sessions will be about 90 minutes 1-2 times a week for about 10-12 weeks.
  4. Collaborate with office staff on transportation, registration and food/meals.
  5. Attend competition/s.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Teaching and Learning will provide connections for program requirements and logistics.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

Middle School Practice and Competition

  • 90 mins after school (3:45 - 5:15) one or two days a week
  • 7-8 practices mid October to winter break
  • 5-6 practices in January
  • Champs/regional competition in Richland: last Friday of Jan (up to 8 teams of 4 per grade)
  • Masters/state in Moses Lake: last Saturday of April or early May (up to one team of 4 per grade, by invitation only)
