Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT

On an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
  2. Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
  3. Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
  4. Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
  5. Adhere to all Walla Walla Public Schools board policies and procedures.
  6. Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Building Administrator.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience working with children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
  • Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
  • Skill in classroom management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using both English and Spanish, to include reading, writing, and speaking.

Licenses/Special Requirements

  • Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
  • Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
