PURPOSE STATEMENT
Tutors will perform instructional support tasks and provide a positive role model for students while gaining possible career path experience in public education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively mentor and engage students and build success oriented relationships.
- Communicate and model AVID’s instructional practices.
- Promote and reinforce rigor in learning through AVID strategies of WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading).
- Evaluate student binders and planners.
- Become skilled in asking leveled questions.
- Facilitate inquiry groups and guide students to higher level discussions.
- Develop collaboration and inquiry skills in students.
- Model academic excellence and encourage a positive learning environment in class.
- Communicate regularly with teaching staff to promote student growth and class effectiveness.
- Prepare and maintain AVID tutor binder.
- Provide positive, consistent follow-up with students.
- Attend regular tutor trainings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED.
- Eligible for college or university state work study funding and/or currently enrolled in college classes.
- Strong interest in working with students in an educational setting and supporting student learning experiences.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain a religious or medical exemption by October 18, 2021.
- Requires completion of a Walla Walla Public Schools application, fingerprinting and background check.
- Requires documentation of State Work Study eligibility from student’s college or university, if eligible.
