Locations: Elementary, Middle and High Schools

PURPOSE STATEMENT

This position is available to high school, Whitman College, Walla Walla Community College, & Walla Walla University students (including State Work Study eligible students), and/or community interested in tutoring.  Tutors will perform instructional support tasks and provide a positive role model for students, while gaining possible career path experience in public education.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Actively mentor and engage students and build success-oriented relationships.
  2. Communicate and model 21st CCLC expectations.
  3. Reinforce rigor in learning & individual responsibility, and improving writing, reading, math, and non-cognitive academic skills.
  4. Evaluate student performance both qualitatively and quantitatively.
  5. Become skilled in asking open-ended, leveled questions.
  6. Facilitate after school study groups, clubs, camps, and enrichment activities.
  7. Develop collaboration and inquiry skills in students.
  8. Model academic excellence and encourage academic successes during the school day.
  9. Communicate regularly with teaching staff to promote student growth and class effectiveness.
  10. Prepare and maintain student attendance records.
  11. Provide positive, consistent follow-up with students.
  12. Attend regular tutor trainings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated competency in core-content subject areas (Math, Reading, Writing, etc.)
  • Strong interest in working with students in an educational setting and supporting student learning experiences.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or obtain a religious or medical exemption by October 18, 2021.
  • Requires completion of a Walla Walla Public Schools application, fingerprinting and background check.
  • Requires documentation of State Work Study eligibility from student’s college or university, if applicable.
  • Requires a signed copy of the WA Dept. of Labor & Industry Parent/School Authorization Form if applicant is hired as a minor.
